Travel Information - Lanta Island

Mu Ko Lanta National Park covers an area of 152 square kilometres and consists of many islands of different sizes including Ko Lanta Yai, Ko Lanta Noi, Ko Ta Leng Beng, Mu Ko Ha, Mu Ko Rok and Ko Ngai.

Koh Lanta Yai is a long beach that stretches from the North to the South. It is where the Sala Dan Pier, the focal point of the island, is located. Near the pier are tour operators, restaurants and a bank. In the west of Ko Lanta are scenic beaches and bays including Hat Kho Kwang, Hat Lo Bara, Ao Phra Ae, Hat Khlong Khong and Hat Khlong Nin. Travelling around the island is very convenient. A road from the North of the main pier passes beaches and the office of Ko Lanta National Park in the South. Most of the area is mountainous and covered with verdant forests. In the east of the island lies an old community since the area was once a District Office, which is now situated on Ko Lanta Noi, The majority of the population is Muslim. At Ban Sang Ka U, the locals still practice some traditions like the Loi Rua ceremony.

Most of accommodations are located on the Western side of the island.

• Take a van from Krabi Town to Ko Lanta (Boarding a motor-raft at Ban Hua Hin and then another raft at Ko Lanta Noi). Trip takes about 2 hours
• A service van from Amphoe Muang leaves for Ko Lanta Yai 3 times at 11:00, 12:30 and 13:00 hrs. Van departs from Tana Tour company (opposite city hotel). For return trip, there is only 2 departure times which are 06:30 and 11:00 hrs. from Ko Lanta Yai to Krabi town, leaving from Anut Tour company (near Sala Dan Pier). Fare is Baht 120 per person per way.
• A boat from Chao Fa Pier, Amphoe Muang leaves at 10:00 hrs and 13:00 hrs. for Ko Lanta. Trip takes around 2 to 3 hours. Fare is about Baht 200 per person per way. Operating from November-May only.
